πŸ‘‹ Hi Reader!

This week, we'll explore:

  • Learning how to predict the future
  • Why facilitators are a whole lot more than sticky-notes
  • Five hacks to stop stalling and make things happen

Free Online Workshop

Let's Learn How To Predict The Future

I'm beta testing a series of "open" (that means anyone's welcome) free workshops, covering a variety of topics and outcomes.

I'll eventually share a schedule of all upcoming topics and dates. But in the interest of launching quickly, I'm excited to announce the first one β€” happening next Wednesday.

The topic is "learning how to predict the future" β€” and I know I'm biased, but it's a reallllly cool workshop.

The goal is to help you reprogram your brain to clearly see where things are going and how to capitalize on them, well-before 99% of the population.

(If you've been part of one of my workshops around this topic in the past, this is not the "timeline" exercise. It's way more sci-fi and mind-blowing in a fun way. 😊)

If the topic sounds valuable (and it should!), I hope you'll join.

If you work for a company, feel free to (and please do!) invite other people from your organization. Kindly ask them each to register, though.

A few things to be aware of:

  • This is a learning-by-doing workshop β€” not a webinar or presentation. You'll be doing stuff. I'll only talk here and there.

  • I'm not charging for this, but it does require the investment of your time β€” which I don't take lightly. I aim to deliver a high-ROI on that investment, and I think you'll get a lot of value from it.

  • If you join, you'll be expected to be active and present for the full 90 minutes. It's not a drop-in and drop-out kind of experience.

Let's Give Love to the Superpower of Facilitation

Facilitators Are More Than Sticky-Notes

Leveraging a facilitator (whether someone external, or training key people on your team in facilitation skills) is one of the most powerful ways for teams to make fast progress. But too often, people assume it's all about workshop exercises and sticky-notes.

A few years ago, I had a well-meaning C-level executive (who had participated, over more than a decade, in many workshops I facilitated) say to me, β€œI’ll always associate you with sticky-notes.”

Um… thanks?

So………….

Not the craft of helping a group focus their brilliance on solving big challenges quickly?

Not the art of cultivating energy and fun, so that hard work feels more like play?

Not the way we took a room full of ambiguity and left with absolute clarity?

Not the connecting of the dots between departments that rarely speak the same language?

Not the shared ownership created, so the strategy didn’t die on the vine next week?

Not the methods designed specifically to unlock each individual’s specific type of genius?

Not the psychological safety built so the quietest person in the room felt comfortable enough to share a winning idea?

Not the navigation of massive egos to ensure the best ideas won, not the loudest voice?

Not the weeks of misaligned work we fast-forwarded through?

Not the months of email back-and-forth we bypassed by aligning in a single afternoon?

Not the way a group of individuals walked in, but a unified team walked out?

Not the velocity we injected into a project that had been stalled for ages?

Not the shift from "talking about work" to actually doing the work?

Not the decision-making discipline that finally got us unstuck?

Not the courage to ask the uncomfortable questions everyone else was avoiding?

Not the many breakthroughs and high-value outcomes the groups achieved?

Not the magic of making collaboration a joy again?

Just the sticky-notes?

A lot of people think they can effectively facilitate a workshop because they know how to "explain the steps." But there is so much more going on with high-level facilitators, and that's what truly leads to high-ROI outcomes.

When I run facilitation skills trainings inside companies, the participants are quickly surprised at how much there is to think about. But after practicing skill after skill with a lot of learning-by-doing, they quickly realize how much more than sticky-notes they're bringing back to their teams.

Let's Stop Overthinking and Start Moving

Five Hacks to Stop Stalling and Make Things Happen

Some days, the facilitation skills I use most are to facilitate myself.

In this carousel, I share five approaches that I have found invaluable myself when I need to kick my rear into gear, and make things happen.

Click here for the detailed descriptions, but I'll tease you with the list of headlines:

  • "8 minutes and a blank notebook"
  • "Do it as bad as possible"
  • "Make it smaller"
  • "Tell tomorrow-me what to do"
  • "The five-second rule"

If you have something you know you should be doing, but find yourself procrastinating, give one of them a try.

How we can work together.

I facilitate High-ROI workshops, off-sites, and trainings that help smart teams stop overthinking and start moving. If that sounds valuable to your team, let's talk!

Or kindly introduce me to whoever plans workshops or trainings for your organization. I'd love you for it.

I also offer cohort trainings for individuals on High-ROI Facilitation, which you'll hear me talk more about soon enough.

Smiles,
-Tim-
